Loin Loom sample 02: Presentation of an experimental loin loom operating with 4 heddle-sticks combined with an Indonesian-style flat warp.
In Summer 2021 every Sunday from 2 to 4 PM at the Drielandenpunt of Vaals. You're welcomed to join us!
We will introduce several types of more or less original ethnic loin looms from East- and Southeast Asia; most of them belong to Austro-asiatic and Austronesian cultures.
This group of looms takes us onto an amazing journey starting on the Chinese mainland about 5.000 years ago. While the Austroasiatic group lead us into Himalayan area to spread afterwards allover the Southeast Asian mainland from Northeastern India to Vietnam, reaching for a while even Sumatra and Borneo in Indonesia, the Austronesian loin looms sail with us onto nearby islands Taiwan and Hainan to spread onto the Philippines and nearby Pacific Islands, later on reaching Flores and neighbouring islands of nowadays East Indonesia. Next steps will take us to Borneo and Sulawesi to spread afterwards on Java, Sumatra and neighbourhood. At the end the Austronesian loom will take us to Madagascar, not the last, but most far away step of the Austronesian expansion from the Chinese mainland about 500 CE.

Vorführung eines experimentellen Hüftwebgerätes am Dreilländereck Aachen-Vaals von Mac & Magic Loom Design im Sommer 2021. Bei gutem Wetter jeden Sonntags von 14:00-16:00. Dieser Loin Loom oder backstrap loom ist ein Hüftwebgerät mit 4 Litzenstöcken und einer flachen Kette, mit der wir einen sogenannten Spitzköper weben. Im Verlauf des Sommers werden verschiedene Hüftwebstühle vorgestellt.
