Preview on our next selfmade foot-braced loin loom, an ancient foot loom of the Paiwan people of Taiwan. An approximately about 3.000 years old model of an Austronesian loin loom. And nowadays still used by some of the Paiwan people.
Next to that ancient prototype there is a modern-style version, where the warp beam is built by a wooden box. Earlier types of these box looms (or case looms) have been carved out of a trunk. Watch out for our video about the Atayal Box Loom Taiwan Tuk Tuk or Austro FroXXX)!
Even it may take a portion or two of concentration when you start weaving with a foot loom like this, but you‘t imagine, what kind of comfort it brings into your life. You have to experience by your own!

Just imagine, 3.000 years ago! While the Bambul seems to be made In devotion to the bamboo, using just basic skills of woodworking, building the box loom-types demands further developed skills and specified tools. On top does the shape of the ancient box looms remind of boats or coffins. But that‘s another thing!
The thoughts about both types led us to an experiment, trying to rebuild a „lost loom“ or one of the possible models between these both. Watch out for the Bundle Loom in our Loin Loom Lab!
