This short video introduces you the Champa station loom, an Austronesian kind of backstrap weaving loin loom. The Kingdom of Champa (nowadays Central Vietnam) is vanished from the map, but their looms are going on, even not many of these station looms are left! In most cases Austronesian cultures are found on the islands of South-East Asia (ISEA), that's what the term "Austronesian" talks about. But in this case it's different! The Cham people belong to the Sundanese people, and originate on Borneo in Indonesia/Malaysia, before they turned to the mainland along the Mekhong Delta about 0 CE. Their language, culture and this station loom belong to the Austronesian group.

This station enables you to weave in any desired width, that the weaver's nature can get managed! (1,50m). In general the Cham weavers use a little batten rest table, that identifies its Indonesian connection! This table is used to rest the batten on demanded height, while weaving!

Dieses kurze Video stellt dir die Champa Webstation, eine spezielle Art eines Austronesischen Hüftwebstuhls vor. Das Königreich Champa (im heutigen Zentral-Vietnam) hat schon vor mehr als einem Jahrhundert das Zeitliche gesegnet, aber ihre Webstühle sind noch aktiv, auch wenn nicht mehr viele von ihnen übrig geblieben sind! Generell findet man Austronesische Kulturen ausschließlich auf dem Inselreich Südostasiens, soviel zur der Aussage der Bezeichnung "Austonesisch"). Doch in diesem Fall ist es anders! Die Chams stammen von den Sundanesen und lebten einst auf Borneo in Indonesien/Malaysia, bevor sie sich ungefähr um 0 CE dem Festland um das Mekhong Delta zuwandten. Ihre Sprache, Kultur und ihr Hüftwebstuhl gehören zur Austronesischen Gruppe!

Diese Webstation ermöglicht es jegliche gewünschte Kettbreite zu weben, die die körperliche Konstitution des Webers zuläßt! Meist endet das bei ca. 1,50m! Die Cham Weber benutzen eigentlich eine kleine Schwertablage beim Weben, die uns anzeigt, dass dieser Cham Webstuhl von indonesischen Webstühlen abstammt! Es handelt sich um ein kleines flaches Tischchen, welches dazu dient, das Webschwert oder Anschlaglatte, während des Webens auf passender Höhe zur Kette abzulegen.
