The Chakma people are spread all over the Seven Sister States of Northeast-India and Bangladesh, once coming from Myanmar. They have great skills in backstrap weaving on simple stake-type loin looms.
Loads of great examples of fine woven textiles with wide warp (1 m or even more!) on backstrap weaving loin looms in Imphal, the capitol of Manipur. Manipur is one of the so-called Seven-Sister-States of Northeast-India. They are working with a pretty long circular warp (guess about 6 m long!). It seems everyone works just with one heddle, what means just plain weave is possible! Watch out these huge bamboo shed rolls! The looms are connected to a wooden railing at the wall in a diagonal manner!
A cute little girl weaving on a backstrap loom. I have no idea, where it is, guess in Arunachal Pradesh or somewhere around the Seven Sisters in Northeastern India. It's a part of the playlist 'Arunachal Looms' of Mac & Magic on youTube.
[03] Presentation of an experimental backstrap weaving loin loom of the Cham people in Central/Southern Vietnam. Yes, Vietnam! Not Africa, nor South America! It represents the inner message of Cham people and has to be count to the last relics of their culture. And it's not primitive, it's gorgeous! And if you think, it's simple, you miss the art within! Austronesian loin looms like this have to be recognized as their cultural library, while their textiles are books for the world and letters of...

Loin Loom sample 01: A video of the public showLOOM of Mac & Magic Loom Design at the Drielandenpunt Aachen-Vaals on Sunday afterLOOM 2021-06/13. We present a experimental Loin Loom (backstrap loom) mixed up by several ethnic backstrap weaving techniques: Influenced by the skills of Chakma people using multiple heddles, we set up an Indonesian-style flat warp with 4 heddles ( like the Palembang Loom of Sumatra) trying to weave a jeans denim with. On top we exchanged the traditional coil rod...
