Welcome at the showLOOM of Mac & Magic Loom Design. Here you may find videos of our Sunday afterLOOM at the Drielandpunt and other events, where we present several models of mainly so-called Austroasiatic & Austronesian loin looms (backstrap looms).
Scientifically seen not all of these presented loin looms are truely "Austronesian", as far some belong to the Austro-asiatic or even other groups. But anyway of these "Austro-asiatic mainland looms" are someway how related, neighbours or even "ancestors" of these Austronesian looms.
This collection isn't that much focused on ethnological aspects, using the loom to trace their culture more precise than language can show out. Our focus here is primarily on formal design & functional construction of loin looms to study the range of solutions they found for each different task, whether they are Austronesian, Austro-asiatic or whoever. Even the herewith connected textiles woven on the different loom solutions isn't part of this collection yet, as far we keep focus on technical relations.
We want to keep you informed about the thousands of years old messages these looms are carrying within, a solution for coming days. And we want to give you an idea, how far in time and space they came, spreading their message over the world. It may wonder, but these "savages" invoked worldwide trading, what made the whole world passing by to participate.
